Better trying than nothing.....

Did this man really earn $1m on YouTube simply by asking for it?

By Daniel Bates

A comedian who made a YouTube appeal for somebody to give him $1million claims the request has been answered by a mystery benefactor.

Craig Rowin made a series of YouTube pleas for the cash, which have been viewed tens of thousands of times.

‘Millionaires, listen up, I have a proposition. You have millions and millions of dollars. Please give me a million,’ he said.

‘I don’t need it for anything specific, but I think it would be awesome. I haven’t thought that through yet. I might at least go on a trip to start’.

If you don't ask...: Craig Rowin made an appeal to be given $1million - just so that he could have an 'awesome' time

Incredibly, it appears some philanthropist was taken in by the appeal and has stumped up the cash.

Rowin said he was ‘flabbergasted’ to receive a letter and a phone call from the man identifying himself as Benjamin who offered to hand over the entire sum.

However, he has been forced to repeatedly deny the entire episode is a stunt to boost his profile.

And he plans to prove the offer is genuine once and for all on February 2, when Benjamin will hand over the cheque in person at a theatre in Manhattan.

‘It still hasn't sunk in yet,’ the 27-year-old said.

‘Do I deserve it? I have no idea. Maybe not. But there's so much wealth - let me have a chunk.’

Persistence pays off: After failing to attract any donations, Rowin made another appeal

In his Youtube appeal, he listed and asked dozens of wealthy individuals, including Lady Gaga, Warren Buffett, Nelson Mandela, James Earl Jones, and actor Will Smith's kids, who he claimed could make him rich if they wanted to.

He also appealed to the Chilean miners for money and apologised if they weren't millionaires.

His latest YouTube video shows him wearing a tuxedo and bow tie with a bottle of champagne on a table.

‘I’m back but I’m not going to ask for a million dollars, because of this,’ he said before playing a voice recording from his benefactor.

‘Hi Craig, Benjamin, I was hoping to catch you in person,’ the caller said.

‘I want to talk about how to make you a millionaire.’

Rowin also showed off a notarized letter from Benjamin’s lawyer saying that he would owe him nothing in exchange for the $1million.

‘On February 2 I will be a one millionaire, ‘ he said on the video clip.

‘Now here is a couple of seconds for you to resent me.’

On the YouTube caption Rowin wrote that he will no longer be asking for cash - but included an email address for anybody who wanted to ‘give me another one million dollars’.
